New to the Giulia Spider?
If you're new to the Alfa Romeo Giulia Spider, here's the short version — what it is, how it fits in Alfa's story, and where to start.
What it is
The Giulia Spider is the 101-series Pininfarina spider built from 1962 to 1965: the open two-seater body of the Giulietta Spider, now carrying Alfa's 1,570 cc twin-cam engine, a five-speed gearbox and front disc brakes. It came in two forms — the Normale (single carburettor, around 92 bhp) and the Veloce (twin Webers, around 112 bhp, with a raised bonnet scoop).
Where it sits
It is the last of the Giulietta-shaped spiders. Before it came the 1300 Giulietta Spider; after it, in 1966, the very different Duetto "boat-tail" Spider that most people picture when they hear "Alfa Spider". This is the pre-Duetto car — subtler, rarer, and to many eyes the prettier.
What they're like to own
Wonderful to drive and genuinely usable, but — like any sixty-year-old Italian car — they demand respect for rust and for the cooling system. A good one, properly sorted, is a delight; a neglected one can be a project.
